WWE Hall of Famer and Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle was portrayed as someone who was a tough nut to deal with. His on-screen persona was that of a cocky champion who would go to any lengths to get his way. From his standpoint, it was my way or the highway. Little do we know about the real side of Angle. Kurt was speaking on the Kurt Angle Show when he revealed that he wasn’t one to play politics backstage and also shared some regrets about what he could have done to have things go his way during his heyday.

When asked if he should have spoken up a lot more, he said, “I believe so. I probably should have spoken up. A lot of guys did. It wasn’t my style but at this point in time, I probably should have said something. I probably should have come up with ideas and pitched them to creative and try to get in that way at least because they didn’t have any plans for me and unfortunately at WrestleMania, they are not always going to have plans for everyone. There are only a certain amount of spots. But my standing in the company, I was one of the top guys. I really thought I’d have a huge program set up for WrestleMania and I didn’t.”

The Brand Split didn’t bother Angle

WrestleMania 18 was a historic event in many ways for the WWE with the main attraction being the Icon vs Icon match between The Rock and Hulk Hogan. Also on the card was Kurt Angle was Kane. Angle was successful in defeating the Big Red Machine. After Mania, there was the much talked about Brand Split where the WWE was split into RAW and SmackDown. Vince McMahon took control of SmackDown while Ric Flair controlled Raw. Angle who was a top star himself said that it did not bother which show he ended up on as long as he was on either show.

Speaking of the Brand Split, Angle said, “I didn’t have a preference. I knew RAW was the flagship show. SmackDown was coming up pretty strongly. So it didn’t matter to me. As long as I was on either brand, it was cool. What I was told from the writers was I was going to be drafted in the second round for SmackDown behind The Rock. The Rock would be the first round draft pick which isnt too shabby. To be second to The Rock is not a bad thing.”
