Jon Moxley has made wrestling history yet again, this time by capturing the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship in a monumental victory over Tetsuya Naito at Windy City Riot in Chicago.

Moxley’s absence from AEW in recent weeks has been attributed to his busy schedule competing for CMLL in Mexico and NJPW in Japan. However, his journey brought him to Chicago for a high-stakes showdown against Naito for the prestigious IWGP title.

Ahead of the match, Moxley acknowledged the significance of the opportunity, recognizing that it might be his only shot at the IWGP championship:

“In all likelihood, I’ll probably only get one shot at the IWGP championship in my entire life. That’s fine. I’m only gonna need one.”

Jon Moxley delivered performance

True to his word, Moxley delivered a stellar performance, ultimately clinching victory by executing his signature move, the Death Rider, on Naito. With this win, Moxley etched his name in the annals of wrestling history as the first man to hold the WWE, AEW, and IWGP world heavyweight belts.

However, Moxley’s celebration was short-lived, as Ren Narita launched a post-match attack, signaling his intent to challenge Moxley for the newly acquired title.

The timing of Moxley’s triumph is particularly noteworthy, as AEW and NJPW are gearing up for their joint Forbidden Door pay-per-view slated for late June. With Moxley potentially walking into the event as the defending IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, anticipation for his next move is at an all-time high.

As Moxley continues to break barriers and pave his own path in the wrestling world, fans eagerly await what the future holds for the enigmatic superstar and his illustrious championship reign.
