WWE Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn has announced that he and CM Punk have resolved their past issues and are now moving forward with a clean slate.

Following CM Punk’s unexpected return at Survivor Series 2023, speculation arose about how Punk’s presence would impact WWE, considering his history with various wrestlers and the company itself, including alleged incidents during his time in AEW.

In a recent interview during the WWE UK tour, Zayn addressed his relationship with Punk, emphasizing the importance of starting anew and leaving behind any lingering animosity.

“I’ve known him a very, very long time. There have been some ups, there have been some downs. And he showed up and I was like, ‘Look, I just don’t want this to be weird. So, like, you know, say whatever you need to say. Say your piece.’ I said my piece. And like, clean slate. That’s it,” Zayn stated.

Sami Zayn wants to have “positive working environment”

Acknowledging the need to avoid harboring resentment, Zayn expressed his desire for a positive working environment, stating, “You just can’t walk around harboring resentment. Because I just don’t want him to walk by and be like a black cloud. Like, I work here, you know what I mean? Or vice versa.”

Zayn’s approach reflects a willingness to let go of past grievances and focus on collaboration. “And that’s it. That’s how I approach, I guess not just him but life. I’ve found in my experience it’s kind of exhausting to hate people [laughs],” he added.

While Zayn and Punk have had their share of disagreements in the past, Zayn emphasized the importance of a fresh start. “So has there been some weird stuff between us in the past? Sure. But as far as I’m concerned, hey, we gotta work together, you’re here, you’ve been through a lot in your life, let’s just clean slate, start over, and, you know, whatever. That’s it,” Zayn concluded.

Meanwhile, CM Punk has recently made headlines with his comments about AEW during an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. Punk’s remarks prompted reactions from AEW President Tony Khan, who acknowledged the need to address certain claims made by Punk.

As the wrestling landscape continues to evolve, Zayn and Punk’s reconciliation highlights the importance of fostering positive relationships and moving forward with a renewed sense of cooperation in the industry.
