In a candid interview ahead of WrestleMania, AJ Styles revealed to The Ringer that he is nearing the end of his illustrious wrestling career and is considering retirement.

The wrestling icon, known as “The Phenomenal One,” disclosed his intentions to step away from the ring, citing concerns about potential embarrassment and the toll on his body.

“I’m done. I’m going to retire,” Styles expressed to The Ringer. “I’m getting to that point where I am worried about embarrassing myself. My brain says, ‘We can do this.’ My body is like, ‘You’re stupid. We cannot do this. We’re hurting every day when we roll out of bed.’ At some point, this has to come to an end.”

AJ Styles spent half his life inside the ring

At 46 years old and with nearly three decades of experience across various promotions worldwide, Styles acknowledged the inevitability of his retirement. Despite his enduring love for wrestling, he recognizes the need to let go and exit the industry gracefully.

“I love it. This is what I do and what I know,” Styles shared. “I’ve spent more than half my life doing this, but at some point, you have to let go because it’s fun, but I don’t want to disappoint you.”

While Styles’ recent return from a hiatus and an ankle injury showcased his resilience, he remains mindful of his physical limitations. Despite appearing in top physical condition, he is determined not to compromise the expectations of his fans.

With aspirations to conclude his career on a high note, Styles expressed his desire for a memorable storyline and match before bidding farewell to WWE.

“I’m getting close to the end. I want to have that story and match to go with it before I leave the WWE,” he stated.

As Styles prepares for a potential showdown with LA Knight at Backlash, his impending retirement adds an emotional layer to his upcoming matches. Fans eagerly await the opportunity to witness one last chapter in the storied career of AJ Styles, a true legend in the world of professional wrestling.
