This week’s episode of WWE SmackDown saw a significant debut as Tama Tonga stepped into the WWE ring for the first time, aligning himself with The Bloodline faction.

Tonga made an impactful entrance by joining forces with Solo Sikoa to take down Jimmy Uso, marking his arrival in the WWE universe with a bold statement.

According to a report from Fightful Select, WWE’s interest in Tonga dates back several years, with initial interest emerging as far back as 2016. At that time, WWE had signed several other stars from New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), including AJ Styles, Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows, and Shinsuke Nakamura. However, Tonga opted to remain with NJPW to continue working alongside his brothers, Hikuleo and Tonga Loa.

Although WWE’s interest in Hikuleo and Tama persisted into last year, a hiring freeze implemented upon Vince McMahon’s return to the company halted any potential signings. Despite this, Tonga’s positive relationship with WWE ultimately led to his recent debut on SmackDown.

Tama Tonga was going to sign with AEW

While there is no word yet on any talks between Tonga and All Elite Wrestling (AEW), it is widely believed that his move to WWE was imminent due to the strong rapport between Tonga and the company.

As Tonga settles into his new role within The Bloodline, speculation remains regarding the potential WWE signings of Hikuleo and Tonga Loa. With Jacob Fatu already signed with WWE and backstage at WrestleMania 40, there is anticipation for the addition of more talent to the roster. One potential storyline discussed involves Fatu and Tonga teaming up, drawing parallels to the iconic partnership of their fathers, Tonga Kid and Haku. However, it is unclear whether this concept remains in WWE’s plans moving forward.

As fans eagerly await Tonga’s future endeavors in WWE, his debut on SmackDown marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his wrestling career.
