John Cena is returning to the WWE. That is one piece of news that wrestling fans from around the world have been craving to hear. He is scheduled to make his return on June 27 at RAW. The Champ has been away for quite some time now. He had an underwhelming one-off match last year against Roman Reigns but that was about it. WWE announced that June would be “Cena Month”, which would commemorate 20 years of Cena being in the company and that is a fitting tribute to someone who has given so much for the company and carried it on his back for the best part of the last decade.

During Cena’s regular roster run, the fans were sick of seeing him and he was booed almost everywhere he went. The reason for that was they thought that he was handed everything and that is true to an extent but it is what he deserves. He was responsible for bringing in numbers when the WWE was going through a slump from 2010 to 2014. During that time, he was responsible for having great matches, year after year. He fought the Nexus and conquered them. He then took on Brock Lesnar and aced it as well. Then he had his rivalry with The Rock which lasted for two years and culminated at WrestleMania 29.

There is one thing about Cena. You can hate him all you want, despise him all you want but you cannot ignore him. There is a certain aura around the man that not many in the WWE have. It is something similar to what people like The Undertaker and Hulk Hogan command. The other thing about John is whenever he is in the ring, he gives it his all and leaves nothing to chance. That trait of his was most felt when he was away from the ring and even his most ardent haters have started to respect him. Yes, he will still get the “Let’s Go, Cena, Cena Sucks” chant but that is done more out of respect, something similar to Kurt Angle’s “You Suck” chants.

There are a plethora of things he can do when returns this time around, because unlike last year, it feels like he is coming back for an extended period of time. That opens up a host of opportunities for him to explore and make an impact. In this article, we will take a look at some of the things Cena can do when he returns.

Winning Money In The Bank

With John Cea returning one week before the Money In The Bank pay-per-view, it seems logical that he should win the Money In The Bank briefcase and go on to challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship. What makes it even more likely is the unfortunate timing of Cody Rhodes’ injury. It seemed very likely that the American Nightmare would win the briefcase but not now his injury will keep him on the shelf for at least 3 months. Enter Cena. After making his return on RAW, he can declare himself for the match and go on to win it. He can then cash in the contract whenever he wants on Roman Reigns and in the process become the WWE Champion for a record-breaking 17th time.

Feud with Theory

Theory has long been earmarked to become the face of the company and is being groomed in the same way as John Cena was all those years ago. The driving force behind Cena’s career was Vince McMahon and now he is doing the same with Theory. Theory has been steadily climbing the ladder of success and his WrestleMania match with Pat McAfee showed the world that he is a natural on the big stage. Recently, WWE uploaded a TikTok video that showed John Cena talking about wanting to have a match with Theory and also Theory needing an Attitude Adjustment. In essence, this feud writes itself. A cocky upstart holding the United States title who is on a mission to antagonise anyone that he comes across. It’s almost like looking at the younger version of John Cena.

US Title Open Challenge

If Cena indeed goes up against Theory and takes the US title off him, then the much liked US Title Open Challenge can make a comeback. This was first started by Cena himself in 2015 when he was the United States Champion. During that time, he went on to have some of the best matches of his career on a weekly basis and in the process brought back some legitimacy to the US title. He can do the same thing now and what makes it even better is that there is a host of talent in the WWE locker room that can dish up classic matches against Cena. He can have matches against the likes of Kevin Owens, Ezekiel, Mustafa Ali, Omos etc. By doing that, Cena can make weekly viewing better and can also put over some of the superstars in order to give their career a boost.

Feuds with Cody Rhodes and Edge

Cody Rhodes is the hottest name in wrestling right now and you’d like to think that Cena might want to go up against The American Nightmare if given the chance. The same goes with Edge. Cena’s old nemesis is back in the WWE and looks better than ever. If Cena does want to feud with either of the aforementioned duo, then the sky is the limit. We can only imagine how good the matches are going to be. Cody with his in-ring technical brilliance and Edge with his new brutal side and to add to that Cena’s overall game make these feuds essential if there ever was the chance.

Heel turn/Doctor of Thuganomics

John Cena was most over with the fans when he was the Doctor of Thuganomics. He had no filters attached to him and was a heel in every sense of the word. The fans have been crying out for Cena to turn heel and it could be the perfect opportunity to try out something like this. There are two advantages to this. One is the fans are going to love it as it shows Cena in a new light. The second would be the numbers that the heel turn would attract. The ratings would go through the roof if Cena ever turned heel. He could then go and have feuds with the good guys and we could also see some new tag team partners for Cena. Heel Cena and Randy Orton anyone?
