CM Punk has broken his silence after All Elite Wrestling (AEW) shocked fans by airing footage of his controversial backstage altercation with Jack Perry at ‘All In: London’. The incident, which led to Punk’s dismissal from the company, has resurfaced in the spotlight after being featured on AEW’s flagship show, ‘Dynamite’.

The footage reveals Punk confronting Perry, engaging in physical altercation including shoving, putting Perry in a chokehold, and throwing a punch. This sequence contradicts Punk’s previous denial of punching Perry during the incident.

CM Punk goes off on AEW

In response to the footage, Punk took to Instagram to share a cryptic message, posting a photo of George W. Bush’s ‘Mission Accomplished’ speech, drawing parallels to the unexpected turn of events following the altercation.

In his interview with journalist Ariel Helwani on ‘MMA Hour’, Punk provided his version of events, claiming Perry initiated the fight and that he was not alone during the confrontation. However, the footage shows Punk approaching Perry solo.

CM Punk tried to choke Jack Perry

During the altercation, Punk allegedly choked Perry but was stopped by Samoa Joe before quitting the company, expressing his frustration to CEO Tony Khan. Despite Punk’s claims of Perry’s provocation, the footage does not support his narrative.

The incident reportedly left Khan fearing for his safety, but the footage does not show any altercation involving Khan. Punk is seen reaching for someone off-camera before exiting the scene.

‘All In: London’ marked a significant event for AEW, with over 80,000 attendees at Wembley Stadium. Perry and Punk, both suspended initially, have not returned to AEW since the altercation. Punk was subsequently terminated “with cause” from the company.

Punk’s return to WWE at ‘Survivor Series’ last November signaled a new chapter in his wrestling career, leaving behind the controversies surrounding his departure from AEW.

As the wrestling world continues to react to the airing of the backstage brawl footage, Punk’s response adds another layer to the ongoing conversation surrounding the incident and its aftermath.
