Leati Joseph “Joe” Anoaʻi (born May 25, 1985, in Pensacola, Florida, United States) is an American professional wrestler, actor, and former professional gridiron football player better known by his in-ring name Roman Reigns.
Reigns was born into the Anoa’i family to Sika and Patricia Anoa’i. His father Sika is a WWE Hall of Famer and was part of a tag team known as ‘The Wild Samoans.’ Reigns is half Samoan and half Italian. He also had a brother named Rosey who passed away in 2017. Rosey too wrestled in the WWE. As a member of the Anoaʻi family, he is a cousin to former professional wrestlers Yokozuna, Rikishi, Umaga, The Tonga Kid, The Usos, and The Rock.
Reigns attended Pensacola Catholic High School and Escambia High School, before going on to major in management at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
In 2018, Reigns announced that he was re-diagnosed with leukemia after 11 years and that he would be taking a hiatus. He made his return on February 25, 2019, to announce his leukemia was in remission, and he received a huge ovation from the crowd.

Reigns signed a developmental contract with WWE in 2010 and was drafted to FCW. He lost to Ritchie Steamboat in his debut match in FCW. He got his first win against Fahd Rakman. In 2012, he changed his name to Roman Reigns.
He made his main roster debut at Survivor Series in 2012 alongside Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose as part of the SHIELD. They attacked Ryback and helped CM Punk retain the WWE title and established themselves as the bad guys in the process.
The SHIELD ran riot from 2012 to 2014 till they were dissolved. Roman Reigns started to appear as a singles competitor for the first time. He feuded with John Cena as the company pushed him to be the face but it backfired as the fans did not like him.
Reigns entered the 2015 Royal Rumble and won, which gave him a WrestleMania opportunity against Brock Lesnar. At WrestleMania, Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract and took the WWE title.
Roman won his first WWE championship in 2015 after he defeated Dean Ambrose at Survivor Series but that win was short-lived as Sheamus successfully cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to take the title away from him.
In 2016, Reigns defeated Rusev to win the United States championship. He also won his first universal championship at SummerSlam in 2018 where he defeated Brock Lesnar. Reigns went on to reignite his feud with Braun Strowman, who was the Money in the Bank holder.
However, on October 22, 2018, Reigns relinquished the title and announced his hiatus on Raw, revealing that his leukemia had returned after 11 years of privately battling it and being in remission. Following this announcement, Reigns would go on an indefinite hiatus to receive treatment. On February 25, 2019, Reigns made his return to Raw, revealing that his leukemia was once again in remission to a huge ovation from the crowd.
Since 2020, Roman has been on a tear in the company as the Tribal Chief. He is the longest-reigning Universal Champion in history.
WWE Champion Brock Lesnar and Roman were set to fight for the title unification bout at WrestleMania 38. During the second night of WrestleMania 38, April 3, he defeated Brock Lesnar to win the WWE Championship for the fourth time. He also became the first superstar to hold both the WWE Title and the WWE Universal Championship at the same time, becoming the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.
Reigns then successfully defended the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Riddle, but after the match, he was attacked by a resurrected Brock Lesnar, reigniting their feud and setting up a Last Man Standing match at SummerSlam on July 30, which Reigns won, bringing their 7-year feud to an end.
On September 3, at Clash at the Castle, Reigns successfully defended his belts against Drew McIntyre, despite interference from the debuting Solo Sikoa. On November 5, Reigns successfully defended his championships against Logan Paul at Crown Jewel. Three weeks later, on November 26, at Survivor Series WarGames, Reigns, and The Bloodline beat Drew McIntyre, Kevin Owens, and The Brawling Brutes (Sheamus, Ridge Holland, and Butch) in a WarGames match.
Reigns successfully defended the championships against Kevin Owens for the fourth time at the Royal Rumble on January 28, 2023. Following the bout, Sami Zayn would turn on The Bloodline, launching a chair at Reigns. Cody Rhodes, who won the 2023 Royal Rumble, earned a bout against Reigns in the WrestleMania 39 main event.
On February 18, Reigns successfully defended his championships against Sami Zayn at Elimination Chamber. Reigns enters his sixth WrestleMania main event with a symphony of pianos on Night 2 of WrestleMania 39. The Usos attempted to interrupt during the bout, but Rhodes was saved by Zayn and Owens. After Sikoa interfered, Reigns successfully defended the championships against Rhodes. This was the first time a champion defended the same championship at three consecutive WrestleMania.
