AJ Styles recently spoke about his brief appearance on the NXT 2.0 brand earlier this year, where he battled Grayson Waller in a feud intended to discredit the NXT Superstar. Styles admitted on this week’s “Out of Character” with Ryan Satin that going to the Tuesday night show was his idea.

AJ Styles said, “I felt it would be a good idea for guys like myself to go down to NXT and really say, ‘Hey, this is what we do on Raw and SmackDown. So when you come up, there are no surprises, This is what we expect.”

“‘These are the rules. By the way, they’re a little bit different from NXT, but this is what they are up here.”

“I mean, we’re talking about guys who have dreamt about doing something, and when you say, ‘No, we don’t want you’, you’re crushing their dreams and their confidence. So I don’t want that to happen. I know how bad that hurts”

“It wasn’t really a surprise because it was kind of my call. I thought it would be a good idea for guys like myself to go down to NXT and really say, ‘this is what we do on Raw and SmackDown so when you come up there are no surprises, no nothing, this is what we expect, these are the rules, by the way, they are little bit different than NXT, but this is what they are up here.’
