WWE Raw came to fans live from the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado. The show had its ups and downs, the latter of which we’ll get to in a bit.

But first, let’s get to the undoubted highlight of the night: the Quiz Bowl with RK-Bro and Alpha Academy.

There are two things which made this segment work so well. One is that each of the four wrestlers are comfortable in their character. The other is that they have insane chemistry when on the mic.

Seriously, these segments have been a highlight of Raw for the past few weeks now. And the Quiz Bowl might have been the best of the lot.

Alpha Academy might have won too if Chad Gable didn’t get the final question wrong. Of course there were recreational activity references with Riddle, but that’s part of the fun at this point.

Riddle, usually the doofus of the duo, actually knew most of the answers. And Randy Orton was at his best as himself; he’s a different performer when he’s clearly enjoying himself.

RK-Bro winning this guarantees them a title match for the WWE RAW tag team championship. Here’s hoping the match lives up to these segments.

Lita, Becky Lynch and making something out of nothing

The art of making money in pro wrestling is fairly simple. It’s about putting on matches that fans want to see; or, more importantly, matches they will pay to see.

But there’s one caveat. The big-money match should be between two equals. And the major issue with the Lita-Becky Lynch match? There’s only ever going to be one outcome – a Lynch win.

This is no knock on Lita, but everyone understand that a big title match with a part-timer in Saudi Arabia will not see a title change take place. It’s a placeholder, an appetiser before the meal.

With that in mind, it is actually quite amazing that Lita and Lynch have built out a competent story for this match.

Lynch is the top dog, the standard-bearer for the women’s division. Lita is a legend who’s still keen to show she can hang with today’s stars.

Lynch grew up a fan of Lita; Lita is currently a fan of Lynch and all she’s done. And their promo segment this week showed that.

Becky’s “Without Lita, there would be no Becky Lynch. But now that there is a Becky Lynch, there can be no Lita” line was killer. But Lita got hers back with a Twist of Fate and a moonsault.

The outcome of this match isn’t shrouded in doubt, but one can’t knock the build – or the work these ladies have put in.

WWE Raw: best of the rest

  • Alpha Academy beat The Street Profits in a tag match. This was right after they lost the Quiz Bowl.
  • Bobby Lashley, the hometown hero, cut a promo on Brock Lesnar. It fell a bit flat, but the crowd ate it up anyway.
  • Alexa Bliss had another of her ‘therapy sessions’. Okay.
  • AJ Styles beat Damian Priest to earn a shot at Priest’s US title. Good match but why couldn’t the #1 contender’s match be against anyone but the actual champion?
  • The Miz, Dominik and Rey Mysterio and Maryse were involved in a promo segment. Dominik then beat Miz in a match. Okay.
  • Bianca Belair beat Nikki ASH clean. After the match, 24/7 title shenanigans took place.
  • Austin Theory beat Kevin Owens in what was the match of the night.
  • Doudrop beat Liv Morgan in a good match.
  • Riddle beat Seth Rollins via DQ when Owens attacked him. But this led to a – wait for it…
  • TAG TEAM MATCH PLAYA! Owens and Rollins beat RK-Bro, but Owens ate an RKO after the match.
