AJ Styles seems to be one wrestler that will be sticking with WWE for the long haul and collecting some hefty checks along the way. Styles, a two-time WWE Champion, re-signed with WWE on Tuesday, inking a multi-year agreement that prevents him from entering free agency, since his old contract was set to end this spring or summer, according to Fightful Select.

If he had chosen to go, there’s no question that several corporations would have been drooling at the prospect of acquiring the Phenomenal One. WWE, according to Fightful, was aware of this and wanted to lock him up before a suitor stepped forward.

Styles, 44, made his WWE debut as a surprise entry in the Royal Rumble event in 2016. He has held practically every championship in the promotion since then. He’s proved himself to be highly flexible, recently concluding a year-long run in a tag team with green rookie Omos and then returning to singles competition and lighting it up once again.

AJ Styles’ WWE contract

Styles is believed to be quite delighted with the firm and would want to continue working for them when his in-ring career is ended, according to the article. The duration of the contract is not disclosed, but it is apparently for “far over $3 million per year,” with insiders claiming that “he earned every cent” and will make that amount back for WWE.

WWE contracts are not like traditional sports contracts in that the corporation may dismiss a superstar at any moment and is only required to pay the 90-day no-compete term. In the last two years, WWE has released numerous wrestlers who had substantial time left on their previous contracts.

Styles most recently fought in the Elimination Chamber match, where he was pinned by Brock Lesnar.

Styles’ intentions for WrestleMania 38 are yet to be known. Styles is one of many wrestlers touted for a WrestleMania battle against Edge on Monday night RAW. Last night, Edge issued an open challenge for WrestleMania and used the term “phenomenal” in his promo. So, it is speculated Styles may face Edge on WrestleMania 38. But, still, it’s all speculation.
