In the realm of professional wrestling, the battle extends beyond the squared circle. WWE, the longstanding industry leader, has recently perceived the actions of AEW chief, Tony Khan, as nothing short of a “declaration of war.” This interpretation stems from Khan’s persistent tweets regarding the head-to-head ratings battle between WWE NXT and AEW Dynamite, an ongoing skirmish that dates back to January 2019.

According to wrestling aficionado Dave Meltzer, writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the recent provocations by Khan, particularly his tweets postulating on the ratings clash, have intensified the longstanding tension. Meltzer suggests that WWE sees this as a direct challenge to their supremacy.

Tony Khan’s utilization of social media platform X to express his views hasn’t gone unnoticed. His tweets have covered a spectrum, from criticizing NXT’s viewership figures to aiming barbs at wrestling luminaries like Vince McMahon, Shawn Michaels, and Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque. Khan’s unique brand of outspokenness has added fuel to the simmering conflict.

Now it is “personal” for Tony Khan

Recently, Khan took to X to share a personal milestone—marking a year since his mother’s successful treatment at Mayo Clinic. In a poignant post, he mentioned that “business became personal” during this period, recounting how he received calls about WWE allegedly tampering with contracted AEW stars while he was by his mother’s bedside.

Addressing his controversial “no million” tweet, Khan explained, as reported by Meltzer, that it was a response to the constant barrage of tweets he receives every Thursday. These tweets, although acknowledging AEW’s impressive viewership, criticize them for not reaching the one-million mark—an apparent benchmark for success in the eyes of some.

In the latest chapter of this ongoing saga, NXT emerged victorious in the ratings battle, outshining AEW Dynamite with a P18-49 rating of 0.30 against AEW’s 0.26. This triumph further fuels the flames of this fierce competition.

In the world of scripted combat, the war of words and ratings rages on, with both WWE and AEW locked in a battle that transcends the confines of the wrestling ring.
