The much-anticipated return of CM Punk to WWE once thought to be on the horizon, now seems to be in the shadows. Despite teases and speculations, recent reports have shattered the hopes of fans eager to witness the Straight Edge Star back in the wrestling ring.
The wrestling world was abuzz with excitement as WWE subtly hinted at CM Punk’s return in their programming. However, what seemed like a reunion destined to happen took a sudden turn when talks between Punk and WWE hit an unexpected roadblock.
Dave Meltzer shed light on the situation in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter. His insights revealed a notable reluctance from WWE’s side, indicating a firm stance against bringing back CM Punk, at least for now. Meltzer hinted that for any shift in this stance, there needs to be a significant catalyst:
“The stuff with C.M. Punk is a no for right now. It could change, but it’s doubtful it will any time soon unless business goes down or there is a huge public outcry for him that hasn’t happened.”
CM Punk’s recent firing from AEW added a layer of complexity to his wrestling future. The termination, which came with cause, was a result of Punk finding himself embroiled in another backstage altercation, this time with Jack Perry.
While the current narrative leans heavily towards a “no” for CM Punk’s return, the wrestling industry is notorious for its unpredictability. The “never say never” attitude remains ingrained in the culture. The final call on Punk’s WWE comeback rests in the hands of Vince McMahon, the titan behind the wrestling empire. The report suggests that, at least for now, officials are not just expressing disinterest but are openly acknowledging that talks have hit a dead end:
“It’s a Vince McMahon call and the others in charge are Levesque and Nick Khan, but in the end, they are doing what Vince McMahon wants. It was strong enough that company officials would be willing to say that they have no interest at this point and talks are dead right now. But I was also told not to close the door completely on it because it’s wrestling.”
The uncertainty surrounding CM Punk’s WWE return adds a layer of intrigue to the ongoing drama, leaving fans and insiders alike on the edge of their seats, eagerly awaiting the next twist in this wrestling tale.
