In a shocking twist that left fans baffled, WWE’s “Judgment Day” witnessed Finn Balor, Rhea Ripley, and Damian Priest turning their backs on Edge during a “WWE Raw” episode post-Hell in a Cell 2022. The unexpected betrayal came right after the “Rated-R Superstar” had welcomed Balor into the faction.

Many questioned if WWE had pulled the trigger too soon on this dramatic angle, given that Edge had introduced Judgment Day just a few months earlier. Interestingly, even Adam Copeland, the man behind the persona, wasn’t entirely pleased with how the storyline played out. In a candid revelation on Chris Jericho’s podcast “Talk is Jericho,” Copeland shared that the initial plan was for Edge to remain the leader of Judgment Day for at least another year until WWE’s creative team abruptly altered the course of events.

“When we were doing Judgment Day, the plan was for Balor to join, and about a year later, they’d all turn on me,” Copeland explained. “But as we got closer to Hell in a Cell, it was like, ‘No, we’re changing everything. He’s joining tomorrow, and the turn will happen tomorrow.'” Reflecting on this unexpected change, Edge believed that the faction would have thrived under his guidance. The sudden creative switch made him question WWE’s intentions for him. “[Judgment Day] was just starting to gain momentum, but it felt like an uphill battle with me leading it—honestly. I began to realize that they might not reach their goals with me in this role.”

Edge went all-in

In a remarkable effort to make the Judgment Day storyline work, Edge went all in. He had 30 custom suits tailored, revamped his appearance by cutting his hair, introduced new theme music, and even adjusted his in-ring style. However, despite his dedicated efforts, WWE’s creative team remained unconvinced. “I tried changing everything and realized that, at this stage, it’s not what they want.”

This revelation from Adam Copeland offers a unique insight into the intricate world of professional wrestling, where storylines can take sudden, unforeseen turns, leaving even the most seasoned performers surprised and questioning their place in the ever-evolving narrative.
