Uruguay will host Panama In an international friendly match at  Estadio Centenario on Saturday. After the cancelation of the home side’s friendly with Jamaica by CONCACAF, La Celeste will be aiming to make it three wins in this round of friendlies, when the North Americans visit them . Diego Alonso’s side are heading into the tie on the back of a goalless draw against USA, while the visitors had thrashed Martinique 5-0 in their last outing. Meanwhile Uruguay had booked their place in the World Cup to be held in Qatar later this year, on the back of some impressive results, finishing third in the South American World Cup qualification standings.

La Celeste couldn’t extend their winning streak to six games after being held to a goalless draw at USA, earlier this month. However, Diego Alonso’s side has been in phenomenal form in the year 2022, having won five of their six games and four of them were the World Cup qualification fixtures. After the humiliating 3-0 loss to Bolivia in November 2021, Alonso replaced Oscar Tabarez as the head coach in December. The 47-year-old quickly turned the team’s fortunes to win all four of their remaining World Cup qualifiers and finish third in the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualification standings, behind Brazil and Argentina to earn a ticket to the global event to be held in Qatar latest this year. And then, Alonso’s side began their June round of fixtures with a thumping 3-0 win over Mexico. Edinson Cavani netted a brace while Mateo Vecino netted once to seal the win in Arizona.

Panama, on the other hand, secured a five-star victory over Martinique in the CONCACAF Nations League fixture two days ago. Gabriel Torres opened the scoring before Panama doubled the lead through Karl Vitunlin’s own goal. After the break, Fidel Escobar made the score 3-0 before Edder Escobar netted a late double to complete the drubbing. After narrowly missing out on a playoff place in their bid to reach the 2022 World Cup, Panama have played just one fixture since a 2-0 victory over Costa Rica on June 3.
