Southampton will be hoping to secure a fourth successive win in the EFL Championship when they travel to Cardiff City Stadium to take on Cardiff City on Saturday. The visitors are heading into the match on the back of a dominant 3-0 win over Preston on Tuesday, while the Bluebirds suffered a 3-1 defeat away to Millwall last weekend. The Saints are currently occupying fourth spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 84 points from 42 games, just four adrift of the top two. The visitors, on the other hand, are sitting at the 11th position, with 59 points to their name from 43 league matches.

Although Southampton didn’t make a great start to this month, losing out to leaders Ipswich Town and then sharing the spoils with Blackburn Rovers. But the Saints managed to bounce back with three back-to-back wins over the likes of Coventry City (2-1), Watford (3-2) and Preston 3-0). On Tuesday Russell Martin’s side put three goals past the Invincibles without reply thanks to Che Adams’ brace inside the opening half-hour mark and Stuart Armstrong’s 33rd-minute effort. It was their 25th league-win of the season. Leaders Ipswich and third-placed Leeds United have each played one game more than the Saints, and a victory on Saturday would keep their automatic promotion fate in their own hands with second-placed Leicester and the Whites still to come on their schedule.
Cardiff, on the other hand, are aiming to finish in the top ten as their playoff hopes are over with the top six sitting 12 points away with three games remaining this season. The Bluebirds have recorded 18 wins, five draws and 20 defeats from 43 Championship games this term. Their last success came against Birmingham City on April 10 thanks to Josh Bowler’s lone goal in the second-half. But Erol Bulut’s side were beaten by Millwall last week despite the fact that Takou Metei got on the scoresheet.
Cardiff City probable starting lineup: Horvath, Ng, Phillips, Goutas, Collins, Ralls, Wintle, Bowler, Colwill, Grant, Diedhiou
Southampton probable starting lineup: McCarthy, Walker-Peters, Harwood-Belis, Bednarek, Manning, Aribo, Downes, S. Armstrong, Brooks, Adams, A. Armstrong
