Coventry are heading into the match on the back of a drama-filled FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester United at the weekend.
Two sides looking to keep their slim hopes of qualifying for the Championship playoffs alive will go against each other on Wednesday night when Coventry City play host to Hull City at Coventry Building Society Arena. The visitors are currently occupying seventh spot in the English second tier table, having pocketed 66 points from 43 games, six away from sixth-placed Norwich City, who have played a game more and are holding on to the final playoff spot. The Sky Blues, on the other hand, are sitting at the eighth position, nine points away from the Canaries, but with two games in hand.
“You can look at it two ways: yes, they had to play a difficult game against an amazing opposition for over 120 minutes, but I am sure they’ll take so much confidence from their performance.” 💬

Coventry are heading into the match on the back of a drama-filled FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester United at the weekend. The Sky Blues came from 3-0 down to force the game into extra-time and then penalties thanks to one effort each from Ellis Simms, Callum O’Hare and Haji Wright in the final 20 minutes of regulation time. However, the Championship club were unable to hold their nerve from 12 yards out and the Red Devils progressed to the final. Meanwhile, when it comes to the second tier, Mark Robins’ side have plenty of work to do in order to achieve a top-six finish. With four games remaining, Coventry are trailing sixth-placed Norwich by nine points but have two games in hand over David Wagner’s men.
Hull, on the other hand, have recorded 18 wins, 12 draws and 13 defeats from 43 Championship games this season and their last victory came against Queens Park Rangers on April 13 thanks to three unanswered goals through Ozan Tufan, Fabio Carvalho and Jaden Philogen. On Saturday, the Tigers desperately needed to take all three points versus Watford in order to put pressure on Norwich but were forced to share the spoils. Hull attacker Tufan missed a penalty in the early stages of first-half. Although Liam Rosenior’s men were able to extend their unbeaten run to four games in the second tier, they have taken only eight points in the period. Meanwhile, the Tigers are unbeaten in their last four encounters with Coventry, recording two wins in the process.
Coventry City probable starting lineup: Collins, Van Ewijk, Kitching, Thomas, Bidwell, Sheaf, Eccles, Tavares, O’Hare, Wright, Simms
Hull City probable starting lineup: Allsop, Slater, Jones, Greaves, Jacob, Omur, Morton, Seri, Philogene, Delap, Carvalho
