Southampton will be looking to make it three successive wins in the EFL Championship when they play host to Swansea City at St. Mary’s Stadium on Tuesday. The hosts secured a narrow 1-0 win away to Queens Park Rangers at the weekend, while the Swans are heading into the match on the back of a 2-1 victory over Preston North End. The Saints are currently occupying fourth spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 45 points from 23 games, seven adrift of the top two, while the visitors are languishing at the 16th position, with 28 points to their name, eight away from the playoffs.

Since suffering four successive defeats in September, Southampton have managed to stitch together a 15-game unbeaten run, recording ten wins in the process. After back-to-back 1-1 draw against the likes of Watford and Coventry City, the Saints returned to winning ways with a dominant 4-0 success over Blackburn Rovers on December 16. And then a week later, Russell Martin’s side secured their 13th league win of the season against QPR thanks to Taylor Harwood-Bellis’ lone goal three minutes from the break. Buoyed from their success at Loftus Road, the Saints will return to St Mary’s, where they have won their last five fixtures, scoring 12 goals and conceding just two in the process.
Swansea, on the other hand, are still searching for a permanent boss, and caretaker manager Alan Sheehsan is set to oversee his fifth game in charge following the sacking for Michael duff earlier this month. The 37-year-old tactician began his tenure with a win over Rotherham United, before playing out a 1-1 draw with Stoke City and then lost out to Middlesbrough. However, the Swans managed to secure all three points against Preston last time out thanks to Jamie Paterson’s brace at Swansea.com Stadium on Saturday. It was their seventh Championship victory of the season. Meanwhile, Swansea have won four of their last seven games on the road.
Southampton probable starting lineup: Bazunu, Walker-Peters, Harwood-Bellis, Bednarek, Manning, Aribo, Downes, Smallbone, Edozie, A. Armstrong, S. Armstrong
Swansea City probable starting lineup: Rushworth; Darling, Cabango, Humphreys, Tymon; Grimes, Fulton; Key, Walsh, Paterson; Lowe
