Ipswich travelled to Elland Road at the weekend on the back of a five game unbeaten run, recording four successive wins against the likes of Millwall, Coventry City, Middlesbrough and Watford in the process. However, the Tractor Boys suffered only their third league defeat of the campaign against Leeds courtesy of Leif Davis’ own goal and one goal each from Pascal Strujik, Crysencio Summerville and Joel Piroe. Town boss Kieran McKenna was handed his heaviest defeat since taking charge at Portman Road and embarking on a superb run of results that propelled his side up from League One into contention for automatic promotion to the Premier League. Meanwhile, the Tractor Boys have been brilliant in front of their own supporters, recording nine wins, one draw and one defeat from 11 second tier games at Portman Road this season.
Leicester, on the other hand, extended their lead at the top of the table to six points courtesy of putting three goals past Rotherham without reply at the weekend. The Foxes secured their 19th league win of the season thanks Patson Daka’s brace and one goal from Cesare Casadel. The result extended their unbeaten run to seven games, recording six victories in the period. The impressive run of form helped Enzo Maresca’s side to move 13 points clear of third-placed Leeds. Meanwhile, the last time Leicester faced Ipswich in a league fixture was way back in February 2014, with a 3-0 victory on that occasion helping them on their way towards promotion to the English top flight.
