Manchester City will be bidding to climb to the second spot in the Premier League standings when they travel to Falmer Stadium to take on Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday night. The visitors are currently occupying third spot in the top flight table, having collected 73 points from 32 games, just four adrift of leaders Arsenal and one away from second-placed Liverpool, but with two games in hand over the top two. The Seagulls, on the other hand, are sitting at the 11th position, with 44 points to their name from 32 league matches, nine adrift of sixth-placed Manchester United who have played a game more.

After showing great promise under Roberto de Zerbi earlier this season, Brighton’s form has dipped since the turn of the year and now find themselves in a mid-table muddle. The Seagulls are heading into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw with relegation-threatened Burnely at the weekend. De Zerbi’s men came from behind to earn a point at Turf Moor thanks to goalkeeper Arijanet Muric’s own goal ten minutes from time. The result extended their winless run to four matches, recording two defeats in the period. Meanwhile, on the positive note, Brighton have lost only one of their last 15 games at Amex, that lone defeat coming against Arsenal earlier this month.

Manchester City, on the other hand, are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 win over Chelsea in the semi-finals of the FA Cup on Saturday. Bernardo Silva’s lone goal in the 84th-minute helped Cityzens progress to the final where they will meet arch rivals Manchester United next month. Although Man City’s Champions League title-defence ended with a loss to Real Madrid last week, Pep Guardiola’s men can still very much complete a double this term. Meanwhile, Guardiola and co have collected 17 points from a possible 21 available in the top flight, and they are unbeaten in their last 13 away-games in all competitions, recording 11 wins in the process.
