The winner of Wednesday’s clash will go through to the group stages of the Champions League, while the losers would drop down into the Europa League.
PSV Eindhoven will host Rangers in the second leg of their Champions League qualifying playoff at the Phillips Stadion on Wednesday night. The first leg at Ibrox stadium last week ended 2-2. Ibrahima Sangare pounced on a loose ball inside the penalty area to open the scoring for PSV in the 37th-minute. Three minutes later, Rangers equalised through Antonio Colak. Twenty minutes from time, Tom Lawrence put the Teddy Bears ahead before Armando Obispo’s 78th-minute header restored parity. Both sides have all to play for in the final 90 minutes of the tie.

The winner of Wednesday’s clash will go through to the group stages of the Champions League, while the losers would drop down into the Europa League. PSV have been granted a one week off from Eredivisie action by the Dutch FA to focus fully on their Champions League playoff tie, with their fixture against FC Volendam rearranged to August 31. Ruud Van Nistelroy’s side are currently on a 12-game unbeaten run across all competitions.
Rangers, on the other hand, are heading into the match on the back of a 2-2 draw against Hibernian in a Scottish Premiership fixture last Saturday. James Tavernier converted from the penalty spot to give the lead to Rangers on the stroke of half-time. Hibernian equalised through Martin Boyle, six minutes after the break. Lawrence restored Rangers’ lead two minutes before the hour-mark before John Campbell equalised in the injury time to share the spoils.
PSV has a number of injury concerns with the likes of Noni Madueke, Carlos Vinivius, Mauro Junior and Olivier Boscagle unavailable for Wednesday’s game. Former Barcelona-man Luuk de Jong is expected to lead the line alongside Cody Gakpo and Saibari. As for Rangers, Kemar, Roofe, Filip Helander and Ianis Hagi are sidelined with injuries. Last game’s goal-scorer Lawrence is nursing an ankle problem and is doubtful for Wednesday’s clash. Colak is likely to be the target-man up front with Malik Tillman and Ryan Kent in support.
PSV Eindhoven probable starting lineup: Benitez, Teze, Ramalho, Obispo, Max, Sangare, Veerman, Gutierrez, Saibari, De Jong, Gakpo
Rangers probable starting lineup: McLaughlin, Tavernier, Goldson, Sands, Barisic, Lundstram, Davis, Jack, Tillman, Colak, Kent
The Champions League qualifier between PSV Eindhoven and Rangers will take place at Philips Stadion on Thursday at 12:30 am IST.
