Lionel Scaloni's side are preparing for the 2024 Copa America, which will be played in USA towards the end of June.
World champions Argentina will take on El Salvador in an international friendly at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Friday evening. The two nations meet for the first time since 2015 when La Albiceleste secured a comprehensive 2-0 win, thanks to Nestor Renderos’ own goal in the second-half and Federico Mancuello’s late effort. Meanwhile, Lionel Scaloni’s side are preparing for the 2024 Copa America, which will be played in USA towards the end of June. The reigning continental champions will begin their title-defence on June 20 in the opening match of the tournament at Mercedez Benz Arena, and their opponents are yet to be known.

Argentina saw their 14-game winning run, which began during their impressive World Cup triumph in Qatar, come to an end versus Uruguay in last November’s 2026 World Cup qualification fixture. Scaloni’s men lost 2-0 at La Bombonera courtesy of one effort each from Ronald Araujo and Darwin Nunez. However, La Albiceleste quickly bounced back with a narrow 1-0 victory over arch rivals Brazil last time out. Nicolas Otamendi’s 63rd-minute effort separated the two sides at Maracana and helped the world champions move to 15 points from six outings, and retain top spot in the ten-team CONMEBOL table. The No. 1 ranked nation in the FIFA Rankings will be confident of making a winning start to 2024, having won 13 and drawn only three of their last 16 friendlies since March 2019, while they have also won their previous two meetings with El Salvador with a scoreline of 2-0.
El Salvador, on the other hand, are looking to end a 19-game winless run in all competitions, that includes nine draws and ten defeats. La Selecta have not tasted victory since the 3-1 win over Granada back in June 2022. La ES finished bottom of the CONCACAF Nations League group and were subsequently relegated. Spanish tactician David Doniga took charge of the El Salvador side back in January, and the 42-year-old would be looking to turn turn his side’s fortunes before the 2026 CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers this summer.
Argentina probable starting lineup: E. Martinez, Molina, Romero, Otamendi, Tagliafico, Mac Allister, Fernandez, De Paul, Di Maria, L. Martinez, Garnacho
El Salvador probable starting lineup: Gonzalez, Claval, Sibrian, Climaco, M. Cruz, J. Cruz, Orellana, Ceren, Henriquez, B. Gil, Bonilla
