The Millrose Games 2023, the world’s most prestigious indoor athletics competition, is slated to take place on February 11, 2023, in New York City. The Millrose Games are known for its elite competition at all levels, with athletes participating side by side from all levels – high school, college, professional, and masters. The centerpiece event of the World Athletics Indoor Gold meeting is the Rudin Wanamaker Mile, which pays tribute to this meeting’s rich heritage. We will now look at the best athletes to watch out for in this year’s Millrose Games.

Noah Lyles (Event – Men’s 60m)

Noah Lyles was off to a fantastic start in 2023 as he claimed the 60m title at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix. With a timing of 6.51 seconds, he got past compatriot Trayvon Bromell in a contest of margins, a week ago. Noah is the reigning World champion and for this season, he has already set his goals. He aspires to destroy the world records in all three sprinting events, i.e., the 60m, 100m, and 200m. The five-time Diamond League champion is definitely the one to watch out for in the 60 meters.

Christian Coleman (Event – Men’s 60m)

The men’s 60m will feature another superstar of the event, Christian Coleman. Christian is the world record holder and fastest man in this discipline, having run the event with a timing of 6.34s in 2019. He is also the defending champion of the indoor meeting and will be eyeing for another stellar performance this time as well. Besides this, he has won the world championships outdoors title twice – one in 100m and one in relay. While he was also the World Indoor champion in 2018.

Aleia Hobbs (Event – Women’s 60m)

Aleia Hobbs is the one to watch for in the women’s 60m event at the Millrose Games. She has been in sensational form in 2023, having won the Razorback Invitational and New Balance Indoor Grand Prix 2023. She clocked a personal best timing of 6.98 s to win the Razorback title. In fact, she had better timings that Olympic gold medalists Shericka Jackson and Sydney McLaughlin at the New Balance Indoor meeting. She will be eyeing to make it a hat-trick of wins in the women’s 60 m event as she plays one of the toughest indoor meetings on February 11.

Ryan Crouser (Event – Men’s Shot Put)

The reigning Olympic and World Champion shot putter Ryan Crouser will be making his first appearance in the 2023 season in New York City. Crouser is also the current world record holder in both outdoor (23.37 m) and indoor competitions (22.82 m) in his signature event. The shot putter is also a two-time Olympic champion, having won the title previously in Rio Olympics 2016. Crouser has also achieved a unique record of throwing eight out of 12 longest shot put throws in outdoor meetings (as of September 2022).

Joe Kovacs (Event – Men’s Shot Put)

The athlete who can give Ryan Crouser a run for his money is none other than Joe Kovacs. In addition to being the rival Crouser, he is a two-time World champion (2015 and 2019) and Olympics silver medalist (2016 and 2020). His personal bests are 22.05 meters (indoors) and 23.23 meters (outdoors). He is the second-greatest competitor in the history of the shot put event owing to his personal best of 23.23 meters.

Chase Ealey (Event – Women’s Shot Put)

Chase Ealey is the favorite to win the title in the women’s shot put at the Millrose Games 2023. Ealey excels in throwing events. She became the first American woman to win a shot put world title at the World Athletics Championships 2022 when she won the gold medal in the women’s shot put event. In addition, she also claimed the US outdoor and indoor shot put champion in the year 2019.

Laura Muir (Event – Rudin Wanamaker Women’s Mile)

Laura Muir, the silver medalist from the Tokyo Olympics, will attempt a double after her strong debut at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix 2023 in Boston last weekend. She would, however, face fierce competition from training partner Jemma Reekie and Canadian Lucia Stafford. The 29-year-old will be competing at the Millrose Games for the first time and hopes to win the coveted Rudin Wanamaker Women’s Mile.

Ollie Hoare (Event – Rudin Wanamaker Men’s Mile)

Australia’s distance runner Ollie Hoare, popularly known as Oliver Hoare will be back in New York City to defend his Rudin Wanamaker Men’s Mile title. Hoare had a fantastic 2022 season, having won the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham with a timing of 3:30.12, also a Games record. He got the better of the 2019 World Champion Timothy Cheruiyot and the 2022 world champion, Jake Wightman, on his quest for Gold. However, on February 11, 2023, it won’t be easy for him to retain his title considering the world-class field in the discipline.
