Hailing from the Netherlands, Dafne Schippers initially made her mark in heptathlon competitions. In 2010, she claimed the title of World Junior Champion. However, her journey took a turn when she transitioned to sprinting, a move that brought her immense success. The highlight reel of her career includes consecutive 200m world championships in 2015 and 2017, along with an Olympic silver in 2016. This was a significant change from her heptathlon days, where she had bagged a world bronze in 2013.
Schippers’ performance at the World Athletics Championships 2015 stands out where she clocked 21.63 seconds and became the third-quickest woman at that time, trailing only legends Florence Griffith-Joyner and Marion Jones. As of now, she ranks sixth on the all-time quickest list. However, after her 2017 top finish, injuries became a serious issue for Schippers. The 2019 world championships saw her pull out due to an adductor issue, and recurring back problems over two years hindered her Tokyo Olympics 2020 performance, where she couldn’t progress past the 200m heats. Her last track race was in July 2022.
