Man Singh from India made headlines by claiming victory at the Asian Marathon, securing a gold medal for his country. He crossed the finish line first, leading China, who came in second, and Kazakhstan, who took third place. Man Singh achieved a remarkable feat by completing the marathon in a mere 2 hours, 14 minutes, and 19 seconds.

He was very close to beating his fastest time. It was a momentous occasion as it marked the first time in 73 years that an Indian won gold in this event. Back in 1982, India last celebrated a medal in the marathon, and before that, notable wins were in 1951 with gold and bronze medals.

In last year’s 2023 Asian Marathon Games, Man Singh managed an 8th-place finish, while his fellow countryman, Beliappa, earned 12th place among 18 participants. However, transforming his performance, 35-year-old Man Singh shattered records in the following year by grabbing the gold with his impeccable time.

Four athletes from the Athletics Federation of India have been selected to compete in Hong Kong. The team consists of Jyoti Gawate, Ashvini M Jadhav, Man Singh, and Belliappa AB. Now in its 19th year, the marathon is set to run alongside the 2024 Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon, anticipating exciting contests from all over Asia.

Other athlete’s performance in the Asian Marathon Champion

At the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon, Anderson Seroi from Kenya emerged victorious, with a finish time of 2 hours, 12 minutes, and 50 seconds. Seroi expressed his determination to return next year and aim for an even faster running time. Hot on his heels was Stephen Mokoka from South Africa finishing second, and Mekuant Ayenew placed third.

The women’s competition was won by Ethiopia’s Medina Armino, clocking in at 2 hours, 28 minutes, and 47 seconds. Runners-up were Beatrice Cheptoo and Gadise Mulu, both delivering strong finishes. Seroi knew that the Hong Kong race was tough, with its good and bad parts.

Even though he felt sick after the race, he was already thinking about doing better next year. He wanted to finish the race in less than 2 hours and 10 minutes. This goal may be necessary to defend his title, as the previous year’s winning times were faster than his current record, showing that competition is fierce.
