This night on SmackDown, it was revealed that a match would be held the next week to decide who Gunther will face for the Intercontinental Title at WrestleMania 39. The show’s first event was a Fatal 5-Way battle between Drew McIntyre, Karrion Kross, Xavier Woods, LA Knight, and Sheamus to determine who would be the top contender for the coveted championship. The Scottish Warrior covered Knight while The Celtic Warrior pinned Woods, resulting in a double pin throughout the match. There was no clear winner.

Adam Pearce and The Ring General engaged in a backstage exchange during the program, and Gunther informed the WWE Official that there should only be one contender for his championship, not two. Pearce then revealed that Sheamus would compete against Drew McIntyre in a singles bout on SmackDown the following week. The victor of that contest will face The Ring General at WrestleMania 39 as the top challenger for the Intercontinental Title.

Against well-known athletes like Rey Mysterio, Braun Strowman, and Ricochet, Gunther has successfully defended the gold. The identity of his opponent on The Grandest Stage of Them All will be exciting to observe.
