WCW’s biggest indigenous star and one of the most popular wrestlers of the 1990s was Bill Goldberg. The former NFL star dominated WCW with his 173-match winning run, which kept fans on their feet and prompted them to carry their own placards to venues to mark his victories. The match between Reigns and Goldberg took two years. And it did not let anyone down. Because Roman Reigns Goldberg’d Goldberg to become one of the luckiest and greatest superstars to pin the greatest of stars in pro-wrestling history.

On Monday, the WWE Hall of Famer spoke on 93.7 The Ticket and discussed Vince McMahon promised him a retirement match in exchange for agreeing to battle Roman Reigns at the 2022 Elimination Chamber. When questioned about current rumors concerning his free agency status, Goldberg responded:

I’ll stop the rumor mill right now. The reason why these rumors are out there is because Vince McMahon and I had a handshake understanding that after the Roman Reigns match, I would have a proper retirement match and that hasn’t come to fruition through them and so therefore, nobody puts a stamp on my career, nobody tells me when I’m done, period, end of story. And when somebody tells me that, I kind of like to fight against it. I like to do things my own way and I go out my own way and I certainly don’t go out under Roman Reigns three weeks after I have COVID and agreed to a match.”

Goldberg wants a proper send-off match

Bill Goldberg said on why he hadn’t strapped his boots. So, if I go on a world tour and promote it myself, that’s a possibility. Hey, I’m a businessman and I’m fortunately in the position, I firmly believe, to where I can still make it happen. At the end of the day, like I said, I do believe that my character deserves a proper send-off and until that happens, I don’t believe I’m hanging them up. So, anything and everything is an option.”

In terms of rumors, Goldberg maybe appearing in AEW has been circulating recently, with even Tony Khan keeping a close eye on what the WWE Hall of Famer would do next. While nothing is set in stone, Goldberg has some ideas for how he wants to end his wrestling career.

In the 1998 Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards, the 56-year-old was named Rookie of the Year. He has won the WCW World Championship once, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship once, and the Universal Championship twice. Goldberg was also inducted into the 2018 WWE Hall of Fame.
