Formerly known as Sasha Banks in WWE, Mercedes Mone made headlines when she left the company in May 2022 alongside Naomi, her tag team partner and WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion at the time. While Naomi eventually returned to WWE, Mone is poised to make her debut in All Elite Wrestling (AEW) next week.

In a recent interview with Evan T Mack on the Kick Rocks Wrestling Podcast, Mone reflected on the circumstances surrounding her departure from WWE. When asked about the decision, she responded with introspection and a sense of empowerment, highlighting her belief in herself and a higher power guiding her path.

Mone shared, “That’s a big question. That’s a big, big question. I really believe in, not only the universe, but I believe in myself and a higher power of light that comes over me. Something inside of me told me that I needed to go do this and stand up for myself. It was a very hard decision because wrestling in WWE has been my whole life.”

Mercedes Mone left WWE like a “boss”

She acknowledged the difficulty of the decision, given WWE’s integral role in her life and career. Reflecting on her departure, Mone emphasized her resilience and strength, stating, “I handled it like a CEO, like the boss that I am, with my head held high.” She also addressed the speculation and rumors surrounding her exit, asserting that she remained focused on her journey and future endeavors in the wrestling world.
