Following his 2013 promotion to WWE’s main roster, Fandango appeared poised for a major push. Following Fandango’s victory over Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 29, WWE began planning Fandango’s path to the Intercontinental Championship. Unfortunately, these efforts were eventually abandoned.

During a recent appearance on “K100,” the former WWE Superstar explained how his attempt to conceal a concussion led WWE to cancel their plans for his upcoming title run.

“They were getting ready to put the [Intercontinental] title on me in a triple threat match at one of the pay-per-views post-WrestleMania. I got a concussion wrestling Great Khali. I didn’t tell the office about it, and I got a lot of heat for it.

The match between The Great Khali and Fandango was won by countout by “The Punjabi Playboy.” The following evening, Fandango fought Zack Ryder at a “WWE SmackDown” taping. Fandango, however, unintentionally disclosed he was concussed after returning from his match with Ryder.

“Sometimes when you get knocked out, you go back to where you actually got knocked out. Your wires get all f***ed up. So, I stooged myself off and they’re like, ‘Oh, you worked Khali last [night] on the show.’ And I’m like, ‘Well, that’s when I got knocked out.’ And they’re like, ‘Well, you didn’t tell us.’ This is when they started implementing the protocols for concussions, which makes sense.”

While Fandango claims he was a “different cat” in 2013, he now comprehends WWE’s displeasure with his failure to disclose his concussion immediately after it occurred.

Fandango reflected on his win against Chris Jericho at WM 29

Former WWE superstar Fandango faced Chris Jericho in his main roster début at WrestleMania 29, where he found himself in a difficult situation.

On the one hand, Fandango was eager to face the man who inspired him to enter the wrestling industry. In contrast, he was uneasy at the prospect of dispatching Jericho, particularly since the latter had been assured a different program prior to “The Showcase of Immortals” in 2013. As Jericho himself disclosed in the past, until Vince McMahon made a last-minute modification, he was scheduled to face Ryback.

“It was around February or March when Vince [McMahon] tells Chris, ‘Hey, we’re gonna have you work with the kid with the dancing gimmick. You have five to six weeks to build up this angle. And he’s gonna go over on you,'” Dango recalled in a recent interview with “WrestlingNews.Co.”

“I mean, I can understand him being a little hurt about the situation,” Dango continued. “I feel like I was in the crossfire. I was finally making my main roster debut, against a guy I looked up to, so I don’t want to disappoint him. I’m also Vince’s pet [project] at the time, he’s actually producing the vignettes and the montages for the match. I felt like I was stuck in the middle.”
