Midfielder Aaron Ramsey has officially joined Rangers on loan until the end of the season from Juventus, the Scottish side announced on Monday. The 31-year-old Welsh footballer has struggled for consistent game-time in Turin after suffering a number of muscle injuries, which have kept him mostly sidelined. He has made just five appearances across all competitions, for a total of 112 minutes this season. However, the Glasgow club fought off competition from English Premier League clubs for the midfielder, who was one of the top earners in the Juventus squad.

As announced by Rangers, Ramsey has joined the Scottish side on a loan deal with a buy option attached from Juventus. The Scottish club will cover a portion of the Welshman’s hefty EUR 7 million net per season wages, an important contribution for the Bianconeri, who have been desperate to offload the former Arsenal-man.

According to Sky Sports, Crystal Palace, Wolves and Burnley were also interested in a January move for Ramsey, but the Welshman declined all those offers. There were fears in Turin that the move would not be completed this month, before Rangers managed to convince the Welshman of the move.

“I am really pleased to be joining a club like Rangers, where there is so much to look forward to between now and May,” Ramsey said.

“I had a number of offers on the table, but none matches the magnitude of this club, with European football and the chance to play in front of 50,000 fans every other week.”

Ramsey would be hoping for regular game-time

Ramsey joined Juve on a free transfer in July 2019 but has struggled for form and fitness with the Serie A club and leaves with six goals in 70 appearances across all competitions. Now, he will play a part in Rangers’ bid to retain the Scottish Premier League title, with the Glasgow club just two points ahead of rivals Celtic at the top. Rangers will play away to Celtic in the Old Firm derby on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, he will be hoping for regular playing time ahead of Wales’ World cup qualifier play-off match against Austria on March 24. “I Am absolutely delighted that we have been able to add a player of Aaron Ramsey’s quality, experience and leadership to our squad,” manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst said.
