AS Roma’s English striker Tammy Abraham scored the decisive goal against Leicester City on Thursday, which helped the Italian side to enter the final of UEFA conference League. The 24-year-old’s 10th-minute header helped Jose Mourinho’s side to secure a 1-0 win at Stadio Olimpico. Meanwhile the first leg at King Power stadium ended 1-1 after Gianluca Mancini’s own goal had canceled out Lorenzeo Pellegrini’s first-half strike,  and therefore Roma went through to the title-decider with a 2-1 aggregate victory. It was a very good defensive display from the Giallorossi, as the Foxes registered just two shots on target in the entire match and failed to create any clear-cut chances.

The England international scored the only goal of the match from a well-taken corner kick by Pellegrini. He managed to get away his marker before powerfully heading the ball past the visiting keeper Kasper Schmeichel and into the back of the net. It was the 24-year-old’s 9th goal in the competition and 25th of the season in 49 games across all competitions. He is the first English player to reach that mark at this point in 2021-22. The capital club will take on Feyenoord in the final at Air Albania Stadium on 25 May.

Impressive loan spell at Bristol city

Abraham was one of Mourinho’s first signings at Roma last summer. Born in Camberwell, Abraham started his youth career in 2004 with Chelsea before moving into the senior team in 2016. The forward then had loan spells at Bristol City, Swansea City and Aston Villa before returning to the Blues. 2016/17 was his breakthrough season as he netted 23 times in 41 Championship appearances for Bristol city before moving to Swansea when he managed to score just eight times in 41 appearances across all competitions.

Abraham played a key role in Aston Villa’s promotion to the Premier League

Meanwhile the 2018/19 season was very good for Abraham as he netted 25 goals in 31 Championship appearances for Aston Villa and played a key role in their promotion to English top flight football. When he returned to Stamford Bridge, Abraham became the youngest player to score three goals in a match for Chelsea in the Premier League. At the age of 21 years and 347 days Abraham scored his first hat-trick for the Blues during a 5-2 win over Wolves. He finished the 2019/20 season with 18 goals and 5 assists across all competitions.

Made his England debut at the age of 20

Abraham also became the first Englishman to score a hat-trick for chelsea in the FA Cup since Frank Lampard in 2007 when he netted three against Luton Town in the fourth round of the tournament in January 2021.He became the first chelsea youth team player to score 10 or more goals in back-to-back seasons since Makine Fillery in 1981-82. At international level, Abraham made his debut for the Three Lions in November, 2017 and went on to score three goals in 10 appearances. One of those goals was during the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying rounds while the other two were scored during the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Abraham has scored 15 Serie A goals this term

After falling out of favour with Thomas Tuchel’s plans, the youngster decided to make a move and Mourinho came calling. The Portuguese tactician convinced the promising footballer to accept the new challenge and Roma announced on 17 august 2021 that Abraham has signed with the Giallorossi on a five-year contract with the transfer fee reported to be GBP 34 million. In his Serie A debut, Abraham made two assists helping Roma to beat Fiorentina 3-1. He then scored his first goal for the Italian outfit in the 4-0 Serie A win against Salernitana. He now sits fifth in the Serie A top scorers list for this season with 15 scalps to his name.
