Teun Koopmeiners scored a double as Atalanta thrashed Sampdoria 4-0 in the Serie A fixture in Bergamo on Monday. Mario Pasalic opened the scoring before Koopmeiners scored a brace and Aleksel Miranchuk completed the drubbing with a superb goal. The win helped Gan Piero Gasperini’s side to move to 47 points from 26 games, just three points behind fourth-placed Juventus, who have played a game more. Atalanta’s league form hasn’t been great in 2022, having not won a game since the 6-2 win over Udinese back in January 9.

Atalanta started the match brightly and deservedly took the lead inside the opening six minutes when Pasalic headed home from Remo Freuler’s cross. The hosts continued to dominate the game and pushed forward for the second and got it on 29 minutes.

Matteo Pessina played a nice little overhead pass to release Koopmeiners on goal and the Dutchman made no  mistake as he slotted home past Wladimiro Falcone into the far bottom corner.

Few moments later, Hans Hateboer played a give-and-go with Pessina before delivering a perfect cross for an unmarked Pasalic in front of goal, but the striker’s header went wide. After the break, Jeremie Borga tested Falcone with a wonderful right-footed curler.

Meanwhile at the other end, Sampdoria had a rare attempt on goal when Francesco Caputo forced a fine save from Juan Musso. But Atalanta made the score 3-0 on 61 minutes. Koopmeiners’ first time shot from Miranchuk’s assist smashed into the roof of the net.

Pasalic saw his right-foot curler hit the far post before Miranchuk scored Atalanta’s fourth goal of the night. It was a brilliant solo goal from the Russian footballer as he cut inside from the right, dribbled past three players before slotting the ball past Falcone from just inside the box on 86 minutes.
