Parma president Kyle Krause announced that Gianluigi Buffon has extended his stay at Ennio Tardini and will continue playing until he’s 46. The veteran shot-stopper has committed to fresh terms with the Duncali through to 2024. Buffon returned to Parma in the summer after the end of his contract with Juventus. He had initially signed a two-year deal with the club, but has now extended for one more season. The 44-year-old has played 23 Serie B games this term, conceding as many goals and keeping eight clean sheets.

Krause confirmed at a press conference today that the legendary keeper had signed a contract extension with the Serie B side until June 2024. Buffon has made most appearances in the history of Serie A (657 games) and has won ten Scudetto with Juventus.

It all started with Parma, when he made his senior debut for the club in November 1995 at the age of 17. He then became the world’s most expensive goalkeeper when Juventus signed him for EUR 23 million six years later.

“He is a great player and for us he is a great pride,” Krause said. “In addition to his leadership skills, he is also a person with excellent human skills.

“We can see the passion he has for Parma every day, we are really happy for his commitment.”

The Italian then helped the Turin club win nine Serie A titles over the next 17 years and became a World Cup winner with his country in 2006. PSG managed to sign him for the 2018-19 season and he added a Ligue 1 title to his crown. An then he returned to Juve on a free transfer.

What I wanted happened: Buffon

Buffon won another Scudetto and Coppa Italia before leaving Juve last summer and moving back to where it all started. The 44-year-old would be hoping to lead Parma back into Serie A before his deal expires.

“It’s a beautiful day, for me and for my whole family,” Buffon told a news conference on Monday. “What I wanted happened and I think the president and the club wanted it too, as I hope the fans and the city wanted it.

“My return to Parma was conditioned by the relationships and a deep bond that I have always had with the people of Parma and the city.”
