Danilo scored a stoppage-time equaliser for Juevntus to cancel out Ruslan Malinovsyi’s opener and rescue a point against Atalanta in the Serie A fixture in Bergamo on Sunday. It was a pivotal match for both sides in the context of the top-four race. The result helped Juve to hold on to the fourth spot with 46 points from 25 games, while Atalanta are just two points behind them at fifth spot, with a game in hand. Meanwhile Juve were without Giorgio Chiellini, Federico Chiesa and Federico Bernardeschi.

Duslan Vlahovic, who was playing his 100th Serie A game, tested Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Sportiello with a left-footed curler early in the match. Weston McKennie’s overhead ball released Paulo Dybala down the right, the Argentine got inside the box, cut inside but curled his shot wide.

Just after the half-hour mark, Atalanta had a golden chance to break the deadlock as Juve goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny came flying into midfield to close down Teun Koopmeiners, fortunate to avoid much contact and therefore a red card, while the ball fell to Muriel, whose effort was desperately cleared by Leonardo Bonucci, in front of goal.

Atalanta started the second-half stronger as Marten de Roon’s shot from outside the box forced a decent save from Szczesny. At the other end, Sportiello flew to deny Vlahovic from inside the area.

Berat Djimsiti risked an own goal when he nodded a corner just wide before Malinovskyi broke the deadlock in the 76th minute. Free-kick was touched on for the Ukrainian, who unleashed an absolute rocket of a left-foot strike from 20 metres out into the far top corner, giving Szczesny no chance.

Six minutes from time, Atalanta were close to doubling the lead as Malinovskyi floated a ball to the far post, where Hans Hateboer volleyed it into the crossbar from close range. Just when it looked like Atalanta were comfortably on their way to a win, Danilo headed home from Dybala’s corner kick, deep in stoppage-time to snatch a point for Juve.
