Natthakritta Vongtaveelap, a 20-year-old rookie golfer from Thailand, has made waves in the LPGA Tour with her impressive performance at the Honda LPGA in her home country. She finished second enduring a mixed final round that saw seven birdies offset by a double bogey and four bogeys to finish with a one-under 71 and 267 overall. Although she couldn’t become the first player since Hinako Shibuno from Japan in 2019 to win on her LPGA Tour debut, she definitely stunned everyone through her performance in the presence of an elite field of golfers like Atthaya Thitikul, Nelly Korda, Lydia Ko, Jin Young Ko and so on.
Born in 2002, Vongtaveelap has been playing golf since she was young and has already achieved a great deal of success in her career. As an amateur, she won various events such as the SINGHA Thailand Amateur Open and the 31st South East Asia Games Individual, along with the Singha Thailand Amateur Match Play Championship in 2022, the Singha Thai Ladies Amateur Open, and was runner-up twice in the 2021 and 2022 Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific Championship. In November 2022, Vongtaveelap turned pro and made her debut as a professional in February 2023 at the BGCC Championship, where she tied for 12th place. She then won her first professional event at the Thai LPGA and has since competed in both the Thai LPGA and United States LPGA Tours after earning her LPGA Tour card by finishing T-28th in the LPGA Q-Series.
