Scott Alexander Scheffler, popularly known as Scottie Scheffler, is an American professional golfer. He has been a regular member on the PGA Tour and is the world’s top-ranked golfer since March 2022, a position he has maintained for over 50 weeks. Born on June 21, 1996, in Ridgewood, New Jersey, Scheffler’s interest in golf was evident when he was just three years old, playing with plastic clubs and balls. He then moved with his family to Dallas and received coaching from Randy Smith at Royal Oaks Golf Club, the same coach who guided Justin Leonard to victory in The Open Championship in 1997.
Scheffler attended Highland Park High School in University Park, Dallas, where he excelled in both golf and basketball. He went on to win state individual titles for three consecutive years, from 2012 to 2014, emulating the record set by Jordan Spieth. He was the nation’s top-ranked junior golfer in 2014 and clinched the U.S. Junior Amateur title in 2013. His PGA Tour debut came at the age of 17 at the HP Byron Nelson Championship, with his sister Callie as his caddie, where he impressively made the cut.
Scottie Scheffler contributed to three Big 12 championships and was honored as the “Phil Mickelson Freshman of the Year” in 2015. After graduating with a finance degree, he and Cameron Champ were the only amateurs to make the cut at the 2017 U.S. Open. His professional victories include the Evans Scholars Invitational in 2019, where he earned his first Web.com Tour win and the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship. In 2022, he was named PGA Tour Player of the Year and defended his title at the WM Phoenix Open 2023.
