Nick Hardy and Davis Riley won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans 2023 in their second season on the PGA Tour, earning their first-ever PGA Tour victory. The amazing duo, who entered the competition late, put on an outstanding display at TPC Louisiana, shooting rounds of 64, 66, 63, and 65. Hardy and Riley, an American couple, split the top prize of $2,485,400, each taking home $1,242,700. They were eligible for the upcoming PGA Championship at Oak Hill owing to the victory, which also earned them a two-year exemption. Their victory at the 2023 Zurich Classic of New Orleans was a crucial turning point in the pair’s developing golf careers since it cemented their names in PGA Tour history.
Both Hardy and Riley displayed outstanding coordination by birdying four of their final six holes at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans 2023. A standout moment of their play was Riley’s excellent 33-foot birdie putt on the par-3 17th hole from the fringe. The pair recorded a 7-under 65 in alternate-shot play after starting the final round three strokes back. They outperformed the previous mark of 259 established by 2022 champions Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele with a tournament-record-breaking 30-under 258 total courtesy to their extraordinary effort. Riley’s best result prior to this competition was a defeat to Sam Burns in the playoff of the Valspar Championship 2022, and Hardy’s best result was a tie for fifth place in the Sanderson Farms Championship previous year.
Hardy and Riley defeated Canadian players Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor by two strokes. The pair kept up their competitive edge in the last two rounds by not making a bogey, and on Sunday they finally took the lead with five birdies on the back nine. Wyndham Clark and Beau Hossler, who were in first place after the first three rounds, were unable to win the tournament as they finished with a score of 72 after making three bogeys and four birdies. With a score of -28, Taylor and Hadwin took second place, while the defending champions Cantlay and Schauffele tied for fourth with Taylor Moore and Matthew NeSmith. With a score of 25-under, Keith Mitchell and Sungjae Im finished in the sixth place.
