Vancouver whitecaps will host Minnesota Union in a Major League soccer (MLS) mid-table clash at BC Place On Friday night. Both sides are heading into the tie on the back of victories. The hosts secured a narrow 1-0 win over league leaders Los Angeles FC last Saturday, while Minnesota defeated Real Salt Lake 3-2 in their last outing. Vancouver are currently placed 9th in the 14-team Eastern Conference table with 24 points from 18 games, while the visitors are one place above them, separated by only goal difference.

Vancouver’s season so far has been inconsistent, having recorded seven wins and eight defeats in 18 MLS games. Meanwhile their recent form has been pretty good, registering three wins, one draw and one loss in their last five games across all competitions. In their latest outing against LAFC, Vanni Sartini’s men secured all three points courtesy of Andres Cubas’ lone goal in the 89th-minute. It was a brilliant performance from the Canadian club as they did not allow LAFC to register even a single shot on target in the entire match. It was the Black and White’s second consecutive clean sheet.

Minnesota, on the other hand, were involved in a five-goal thriller at Allianz Field. Minnesota took a two-goal lead in the first half courtesy of Emmanuel Reynoso’s brace before Muis Amarill tripled the lead just after the hour-mark. Although Real Salt Lake reduced the deficit courtesy of goals by Jefferson Savarino and Anderson Julio, the Loons held on to the slender lead and secured all three points. It was their seventh league win of the season and first in their last seven games across all competitions.
