Los Angeles FC will host Los Angeles Galaxy in a Major League Soccer (MLS) fixture at the Banc of California Stadium on Friday night. The hosts are heading into the tie on the back of a narrow 1-0 loss at Vancouver last Saturday, while LA Galaxy thrashed Montreal 4-0 in their last outing. LAFC occupy top spot in the Western Conference table with 36 points from 18 games, while the visitors, who have a game in hand, are placed at the fourth spot with 27 points. The previous meeting between these two sides in the US Open Cup last-16 clash on May 26 ended 3-1 in favour of LA Galaxy’s.

LAFC have been dominant throughout the season, registering 11 wins from their opening 18 league games. They are very impressive offensively, scoring 35 goals, which is more than any other team in the division at this point. However, the Black and Gold suffered only their third defeat of their league campaign last Saturday. At BC Place, Andres Cubas’ 89th -minute goal separated the two sides. It was a cagey affair as LAFC failed to register even a single shot on target in the entire match.
The LA Galaxy, on the other hand, put four four goals past Montreal without any reply last Monday. Javier Hernandez opened the scoring inside the opening 8 minutes before Dejan Joveljic doubled the score from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time. After the break, Ryan Raveloson netted a brace to complete the drubbing and earn three points for LA Galaxy. Prior to that, Greg Vanney’s men were winless in three games, playing out a 1-1 draw against Portland, while losing 2-1 to Sacramento Republic FC in the US Open Cup and 3-2 against Minnesota in a league match.
LAFC boss Steven Cherundolo has a number of injury concerns as Erk Duenas is dealing with a knee problem, Julian Gaines is nursing a pervis issue and Ismael Tajouri-shardi is recovering from a left-quad injury. Arango and Musovski could lead the attack with Hollingshead and Escobar occupying the flanks. Ginella, Acosta and Blessing could form the midfield trio. As for LA Galaxy, head coach Vanney is unlikely to make too many changes to the side that started in the thumping victory against Montreal. Strike-partners Hernandez and Joveljic would continue up front with Raveloson deployed as the attacking midfielder.
Los Angeles FC probable starting lineup: Crepeau; Fall, Lbeagha, Murillo; Hollingshead, Ginella, Acosta, Blessing, Escobar; Arango, Musovski.
Los Angeles Galaxy probable starting lineup: Bond; Edwards, Williams, Coulibaly, Araujo; Alvarez, Delgado, Raveloson, Grandsir; Hernandez, Joveljic.
