Valencia will be bidding to continue their impressive start to the 2023-24 La Liga season when they host newly promoted Las Palamas at Mestalla on Friday night. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of an 2-1 victory away to Europa League champions Sevilla last weekend, while La Union Deportivo played out a 1-1 draw against Mallorca last time out. Che had a disappointing Spanish top flight campaign last term, finishing at the 16th spot, just two points clear of the relegation zone, and will be aiming for a much better season this time around. The visitors, on the other hand, returned to the top division after a gap of four years following a second place finish in the 2022-23 Segunda Divsion.

Valencia gave a good account of themselves against Sevilla at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan last Saturday. Che broke the deadlock through midfielder Mouctar Diakhaby’s 60th-minute effort before Youssef En-Nesyri leveled the score for Rojiblancos Sevillistas. The match was evenly poised as both sides recorded three shots on target each, but Ruben Baraja’s side scored the winner two minutes from time thanks to substitute Javi Guerra’s strike. It was a much-needed victory for Valencia, who are struggling with financial constraints. The club has managed to make just two signings this summer, bringing in Cenk Ozkacar and Pepelu, while the likes of Yunus Musah, Jorge Saenz, Edinson Cavani and Toni Lato have moved.
Las Palamas, on the other hand, were impressive against Mallorca last Saturday, taking the lead through Jonathan Viera’s 29th-minute opener from the penalty spot. But the Pirates managed to level the score through Antonio Raillo’s 70th-minute effort and the points were shared. La Union Deportivo’s previous Spanish top flight campaign was back in the 2017-18 season, and therefore their primary aim at the end of this season would be to ensure survival . The club has made eight signings this summer, including Sandro Ramirez and Munir El Haddadi, while Wilfried Kaproum and Florin Andone have been among those to depart.
Valencia probable starting lineup: Mamardashvili, Correia, Paulista, Ozkacar, Gaya, Foulquier, Diakhaby, Pepelu, Guerra, Almeida, Duro
Las Palmas probable starting lineup: Valles, Lemos, Coco, A Suarez, Singraven, Viera, Munoz, K Rodriguez, Loiodice, Ramirez, Cardona
