Ipswich Town will be looking to hold on to the top spot in the EFL Championship standings when they play host to Southampton at Portman Road on Monday. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 win away to Blackburn Rovers on the day of Good Friday, while the Saints were held to a 1-1 draw by Middlesbrough last time out. The victory helped the Tractor Boys to move to the summit of the English second tier table, having collected 84 points from 39 games, just two clear of third-placed Leicester City, who have a game in hand. The visitors, meanwhile, are sitting at the fourth position, with 74 points to their name from 37 league matches, nine adrift of second-placed Leeds United, who are occupying the final automatic promotion spot and have played two games more.

Ipswich have recorded 25 wins, nine draws and five defeats from 39 Championship games so far. On Friday, the Tractor Boys edged past Blackburn at Ewood Park thanks to Conor Chaplin’s lone goal inside the opening nine minutes. Since Leeds were held to a draw with Watford and Leicester lost out to Bristol City on Good Friday, Kieran McKenna’s side climbed to the summit of the standings. Moreover, Ipswich have won eight of their last ten outings, including each of their last four at Portman Road, during which they have scored at least three times in all of those home-triumphs.
Southampton, on the other hand, won their first two matches in March against the likes of Birmingham City (4-3) and Sunderland (4-2), but were forced to share the spoils versus Middlesbrough on their return to action following the international break. The Saints took an early lead through Adam Armstrong’s 12th-minute opener and looked like securing their 22nd league-win of the season, but Boro attacker Emmanuel Latte Lath scored a dramatic 90th-minute equliser to share the points. Despite the draw Russell Martin’s side are comfortably seven clear of fifth-placed West Bromwich Albion with two matches in hand.
Ipswich Town probable starting lineup: Hladky, Tuanzebe, Woolfenden, Edmundson, Davis, Luongo, Morsy, Sarmiento, Chaplin, Broadhead, Moore
Southampton probable starting lineup: Bazunu, Harwood-Bellis, Bednarek, Stephens, Manning, S. Armstrong, Downes, Smallbone, Brooks, Adams, A. Armstrong.
