The Cherries are working towards their Premier League opener at home to West Ham United on August 12, while the Saints will begin their Championship campaign away to Sheffield Wednesday on August 4.

Southampton had a disastrous 2022-23 Premier League campaign, finishing at the foot of the standings, picking up just 25 points from their 38 league games, which saw them get relegated to the Championship for the first time since 2012. The Saints have already played three friendlies this summer, starting with a 2-0 defeat to Portuguese Primeira Liga champions Benfica on July 12, before drawing 1-1 with Goztepe three days later. Russell Martin’s side got the better of Reading in a six-goal thriller on Saturday thanks to goals from Jan Bednarek, James Ward-Prowse, Adam Armstrong and Joe Aribo. Southampton have just two friendlies left before beginning their English second tier campaign away to Sheffield Wednesday on August 4.
Bournemouth, on the other hand, finished 15th in the Premier League last season courtesy of collecting 39 points, five points clear of the relegation zone. Thereby, Former Rayo Vallecano head coach Andoni Iraola has replaced Gary O’Neil at the helm of the team. The Cherries began their pre-season with a 4-0 success over Hibernian on July 13 before losing out to Maccabi Tel Aviv, three days later. Iraola’s men will take on Atalanta BC and Lorient in their final two pre-season games before beginning their 2023-24 English top tier campaign at home to West Ham United on August 12. Meanwhile, the club have already made four signings this summer, bringing in Hamed Traore, Milos Kerkez, Romain Faivre and Justin Kluivert to boost their squad for the upcoming campaign.
