Chelsea are experiencing one of their worst-ever Premier League seasons in recent memory. The fall from grace has been quite massive for the Blues as they are struggling to even finish in the top half of the campaign. It is quite extraordinary to see a club of that magnitude going through such a poor campaign this time around. Add to it, their massive transfer spendings over the past two windows, Chelsea were expected to comfortably seal the top four positions in the league standings. However, nothing has gone according to plan for the Blues this season.

The Blues are currently languishing in the 11th spot in the Premier League table with 43 points from 35 matches. They have three massively difficult fixtures against top sides still left in the league. If they win those games and other results go their way, then Chelsea could get into the top half of the standings. However, for that to happen, the Blues would need to win all their remaining games and must hope for 10th place Fulham, who are on 51 points from 36 games, to lose their final two matches. Having said that let us look at the final three games for Chelsea to understand if they can manage a top half finish.

Manchester City – May 21 (Away)

It does not get any more difficult than to play in-form Manchester City right now. Add to that, the game will be happening at the Etihad Stadium. Besides, that match could guarantee City the Premier League title. A win next Sunday will ignite title celebrations among the home supporters. In fact, Man City could even win the title without playing if Arsenal lose their match a day earlier. Either way, the atmosphere is set to be electric at Etihad next Sunday. It is not the time that any side would prefer to travel to the blue half of Manchester. Therefore, it is highly impossible for Chelsea to get anything from that game.

Manchester United – May 25 (Away)

Chelsea will continue to remain in Manchester for few more days to face the red half of the city. This could be another fixture which the Blues would have very much hoped to avoid. If the coming results go their way, then Manchester United could be in a position to seal their top four place on this day. Besides, their form at Old Trafford has been simply sensational this season. Hence, Chelsea will be in for another tough night at a ground that will be rocking with optimism. It is unlikely to see the Blues, in their current form, get anything out of their trip to Manchester.

Newcastle United – May 28 (Home)

This will neither be easy for Frank Lampard’s side. Newcastle United have been in incredible form this season and are rightly sitting in the top four positions. If results go their way, then Newcastle could seal their top four status even before traveling to Stamford Bridge. However, if Newcastle do not win all their previous games then they would require to get something out of this match, which will not be a good news for the Blues. Either way, this could also prove to be an extremely difficult challenge for the London outfit. Taking their remaining fixtures into account, it does seem unlikely for Chelsea to finish in the top half of the Premier League table.
