Napoli will be looking to extend their lead at the top of Serie A standings to an extraordinary 21 points when they host Lazio at Diego Maradona Stadium on Friday night. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of victories in their last outings, with the hosts defeating Empoli 2-0 on the road last Saturday, while Lazio secured a narrow 1-0 win over Sampdoria at home, two days later. As of now, Luciano Spalletti’s side are comfortably occupying top spot in the Italian top flight standings, having collected a whopping 65 points from 24 games. The visitors, meanwhile, are sitting three places behind the Blues, separated by 20 points.

Napoli are in extraordinary form, having won each of their last seven games in all competitions. Spalletti’s side put two goals past Empoli last time out, courtesy of Adrian Ismajli’s own goal inside the opening 17 minutes, and Victor Osimhen’s 28th-minute effort. The Nigerian striker has now scored in eight consecutive Serie A matches, the first man to reach the tally since Cristian Ronaldo more than three years ago. Although Partenopei finished the match with 10 men after Mario Rui was sent off midway through the second half, that didn’t stop them from securing their 21st top flight victory of the campaign.
Lazio, on the other hand, are also in pretty good form, having won three of their last four games across all competitions. After suffering a 2-0 defeat to Atalanta in the top flight earlier this month, the Eagles edged past CFR Cluj 1-0 in the first leg of their Europa conference League playoff tie, before securing a 2-0 Serie A win away to Salernitana. The second leg of the European tie ended in a goalless draw last week, and thereby Lazio went through to the last-16 of the competition. Meanwhile, last time out, Maurizio Sarri’s side secured a narrow league-win over Sampdoria, thanks to Luis Alberto’s lone goal ten minutes from time. It was their 13th top flight victory of the season.
