Liberia were last in action on March 29, when they lost 2-1 at the hands of Burundi in a friendly fixture at Mardan Sports Complex. The visitors struck twice in the first half through Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana before the Lone Stars pulled one back through Divine Teah’s second half strike. It was Liberia’s third consecutive defeat across all competitions, the Lone stars were thrashed 4-0 by Benin on March 24 before suffering a 1-0 loss to Sierra Leone three days later. Liberia are aiming to secure their third appearance in the continental event and their first since 2002. Liberia has conceded 15 goals in their last seven outings, while scoring only five times.

Morocco, on the other hand, started their qualifiers with victory against South Africa. In Rabat, the visitors took the lead through Lyle Foster’s eighth-minute strike but the Atlas Lions had more than enough quality in their ranks to turn things around. Sevilla forward Youssef En-Nesyri and 28-year-old Ayoub El Kaabi struck in the second half to clinch all three points for Morocco and move to the top of Group K. Vahid Halilhodzic’s side are unbeaten in each of their last three competitive games across all competitions, a run which saw them secure a place in the upcoming World Cup in Qatar courtesy of a 5-2 aggregate win over Congo DR in March’s qualification playoffs.
