The last outings for both these sides in March ended in 2-1 victories, with La Tri getting the better of Australia, while La Verde defeated Saudi Arabia. Despite not progressing to the knockout rounds of the World Cup in Qatar, Ecuador gave a god account of themselves and are aiming to achieve greater heights in the future, while they certainly have a young group of players who will achieve their peaks come the next World Cup in 2026.

Ecuador achieved automatic qualification for the 2022 World Cup and started off the tournament with a comprehensive 2-0 win over hosts Qatar, before earning a 1-1 draw against European heavyweights Netherlands. Although Gustavo Alfaro side lost 2-1 to Senegal in their final group match and finished third in the group, they were one of the most exciting teams in the tournament, with the an average age of just 25 years. La Tri returned to action in March, under the stewardship of new boss Felix Sanchez, playing two friendlies against Australia, losing the first one 3-1, before triumphing in the second, thanks to second half goals from Pervis Estupinan and Willian Pacho. After Saturday’s game, Ecuador will take on Costa Riva at Subaru Park on Tuesday night.

Bolivia, on the other hand, failed to qualify for the World Cup, having lost each of their final four CONMEBOL WC qualifying games and finishing at the ninth spot in the 10-team table. After that, La Verde lost their next three friendlies across September and November, extending their losing streak to seven matches in all competitions. The Green finally ended their losing run against Saudi Arabia on March 28, thanks to goals from Marcelo Martins Moreno and Carmelo Algaranaz. Now, Gustavo Costas’ men will be looking to build on their success against the Falcon Greens before hosting Chile in Santa Cruz next week.
