Brazil will play Guinea in an international friendly at Cornela El-Prat in Barcelona on Saturday night. The National Elephants are heading into the match on the back of a 2-1 defeat against Egypt in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Wednesday, while Selecao’s last action was back in March when they suffered 2-1 defeat to Morocco in a friendly. After losing to Croatia in the World Cup quarter-final stage, the South American giants have parted ways with head coach Tete and Under-20 boss Ramon Menezes has bee tasked with temporarily leading Brazil until a final decision regarding a permanent alternative is taken.

Brazil went into the World Cup in Qatar as one of the favourites, having recorded a 15-game unbeaten run and comfortably booked their place in the knockout round courtesy of winning their first two games against Serbia and Switzerland, before suffering a shock 1-0 defeat to Cameroon in their final group-match. Although Tete’s men thrashed South Korea 4-1 in the round of 16 clash, Croatia produced a resolute defensive performance to keep the score 0-0 at the end of 90 minutes of play in the quarter-final match before Bruno Petkovic’s 117th-minute effort canceled out Neymar’s opener, and the checkered Ones went on to prevail 4-2 in the tiebreaker. After the World Cup disappointment, Selecao returned to action in Match losing out to the Atlas Lions in Tangier despite the fact that Casemiro got on the scoresheet. Little Yellow are going through a transition phase and having lost their last two games, Brazil will be hoping to get back to winning ways in the two friendlies against Guinea and Senegal this month.

Guinea, on the other hand, are set to take on five-time world champions, having posted just three wins from their last ten outings in all competitions. Two of their last three wins came against Ethiopia in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in March. Meanwhile, the National Elephants gave a good account of themselves against Egypt last time out, taking the lead through Serhou Guirassy’s 26th-minute effort. But the Pharaos fought back to take al three points thanks to goals from Trezeguet and Mostafa Mohamed. As of now, Guinea are sitting at the second spot in Group D of the AFCON Qualifiers, having collected nine points from five games, just three adrift of Egypt.
