West Ham United have announced that experienced midfielder Manuel Lanzini will depart the club this summer. The Argentine international, who has spent eight years with the Hammers, will depart the club once his contract expires on June 30. It is unclear where his future will be at this point in time, however, one thing is clear – Lanzini will be missed by the West Ham supporters. The action-packed midfielder did not take long to register his place among the fans’ hearts.

Known for some of his spectacular long-range strikes, Manuel Lanzini has registered a total of 226 appearances in all competitions. In that period, he has found the back of the net 32 times and also twice won the Club’s Goal of the Season award. He had initially joined West Ham United on loan from United Arab Emirates side Al Jazira in 2015. The move was made permanent the following year.

We are sorry to see him go: David Moyes

Lanzini also played an important role in West Ham winning the Europa Conference League title in the recently concluded season. Speaking about his departure, manager David Moyes only had good words to describe the Argentine midfielder. “On behalf of the players and coaching staff, I would like to thank Manu and wish him all the very best for the future. Manu has been a tremendous servant for the football club and a brilliant player for me in my time here as manager. In my first spell he played a key role in helping us to stay up, and he has always been someone I can rely on,” Moyes was quoted as saying by the club’s website.

“He has some wonderful memories at West Ham – including that famous equaliser at Tottenham when we came back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3. People still talk about that goal and what that result did to increase the confidence and belief around the Club at that time. Manu is a fantastic professional, a really good lad, and whichever club he joins will have an excellent player on their hands. We are sorry to see him go, but he deserves the opportunity to play more regularly elsewhere, and we wish him well in his next adventure.”

Mark Noble on Manuel Lanzini

Meanwhile, Sporting Director and former team-mate, Mark Noble, spoke about his first impression of training with Manuel Lanzini. “It has been a privilege to be a team-mate and a friend of Manu’s during his time at West Ham United. When he first walked into Chadwell Heath, as a 21-year-old on loan, I have to be honest, I looked at Manu and thought: ‘He might struggle in the Premier League.’ Ten minutes later, I saw him in training and thought: ‘He’s going to be one of the most special players West Ham fans will ever see’,” he stated.

“Manu is what I would call a player’s player. Until you have trained and played with him, you really don’t appreciate just how gifted and talented he is. Technically superb, fantastic vision, and so unselfish in how he uses the ball and helps the team. For the last eight years, he has given absolutely everything for the Club. It was a true pleasure to play alongside him in West Ham’s midfield, and to count him as a great friend during his time here.”
