It is down to just four teams in the Champions League. As semi-finals beckon upon us, all the remaining teams will be quietly confident of getting over the finish line. Some will feel more confident than others to lift the coveted trophy, thanks to their impressive form of late. However, this tournament has historically proven that past results do not matter. A team’s history in the competition or their recent run of form counts for little when the game kicks off under the flood lights.

Not always the best team in the competition has lifted the trophy. A lot of factors play in during the course of the tournament such as what kind of draw a team gets and the form of their opponents on a given day. Besides, when it gets to the knockout stage, a single bad night can cost a team big time. The same is the case in the final – it is not always the best team that wins the trophy. With Manchester City, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Inter Milan still left in the competition, let us analyse their chances of winning the Champions League this season.

1.) Manchester City (47.38% chance)

As per the calculations made by Opta supercomputers, the chances of Manchester City winning the 2022-23 Champions League title is highest among all the remaining four teams. Man City have a 47.38% chance of lifting the coveted trophy. It is to be noted that the blue half of Manchester have never won the UCL title. They came agonizingly close in 2021 before falling short to fellow English club Chelsea. Their current manager Pep Guardiola has experience of winning this competition – twice with Barcelona. He would now hope to add to that tally with Man City, however, they have a tough assignment against Real Madrid waiting in the semifinals.

2.) Inter Milan (23.86% chance)

Second in this list is Inter Milan. They have 23.86% chance of lifting the Champions League trophy, according to Opta supercomputers. It is surprising to see them placed second in this table. Many believed Manchester City and Real Madrid would be favourites to win the title. However, since both clubs are drawn against each other in the semi-final, only one of City or Real can go through to the final. On the other side of the draw is an all-Italian semi-final between AC Milan and Inter Milan. If these numbers are to be believed then Inter have a better chance of reaching the Championship match ahead of their local city rivals.

3.) Real Madrid (16.59% chance)

The Spanish giants are the holders of this trophy. They had in fact beaten Manchester City at the same stage last year to reach the final before getting past Liverpool. Real Madrid are the most successful team in the competition’s history, with no club managing to come anywhere near the 14 trophies they have won in this competition. It is no surprise that Carlo Ancelotti’s side have yet again maintained their dominance at the European stage. Despite their below-par performances in La Liga this campaign, Real have maintained their standards in this competition yet Opta has only given them 16.59% chance of winning this season’s competition.

4.) AC Milan (12.17% chance)

If Opta’s supercomputers are to be believed then AC Milan are the clear underdogs among the remaining four clubs in this tournament. Despite Milan avoiding any of the big sides in the semi-final, they are not given much chance of lifting the coveted trophy. The Rossoneri will square off against local derby rivals Inter Milan. It would not be an easy match by any stretch of imagination, however, AC Milan would prefer to play Inter than any of the other two giants. The Rossoneri will atleast be used to playing Inter Milan in their local league, hence they will back their chances of reaching the final. However, they only have 12.17% chance of winning the Champions League crown this season – the least among the four teams.
