Celtic have played six friendlies this summer, recording three wins, two draws and a defeat in the process. The Celts were held to a 1-1 draw by Premier League side Wolves last time out despite taking the lead through Kyogo Furuhashi’s 6th-minute effort. Tuesday’s fixture against the Spanish outfit will be the Bhoys’ final pre-season friendly before beginning their title defence at home to Ross County. The Hoops won the domestic treble last term and will be looking to repeat the same under new boss Brendan Rodgers. In order to boost their resources, the club have been busy in the transfer market this summer, bringing in the likes of Maik Nawrocki, Odin Thiago Holm and Yang Hyun-Jun to Celtic Park.
Athletic claimed eighth place in the Spanish top flight standings last season, having collected 51 points from 38 games, just two points adrift of the top seven. Ernesto Valverde’s men won just one of their final eight league games last term and the poor run of form cost them a European qualification. Meanwhile the Lions returned for pre-season mid-way through July, and have already played four friendlies, recording one win, a draw and two defeats in the process. The Basque outfit have two more friendlies after this one against Eibar and Manchester United before beginning their La Liga campaign at home to Los Blancos. Athletic have made two signings this summer, bringing in Inigo Ruiz de Galarreta from Mallorca on a free transfer, while Javier Marton has arrived from Real Sociedad.
Celtic probable starting lineup: Hart, Nawrocki, Scales, Welsh, Taylor, McGregor, O’Riley, Hatate, Abada, Maeda, Furuhashi
Athletic Bilbao probable starting lineup: Simon, De Marcos, Vivian, Lekue, Yuri, Muniain, Herrera, Sancet, N Williams, Guruzeta, I Williams
